Mise-En-Scene

In our discussion of mise-en-scene this week we discussed the ways that framing, setting, and camera work adds to a film. This discussion reminded me of how much I truly appreciate cinematography and direction; for me, the first fantasy film that I notice framing and setting mattering would be the Matrix. In the Matrix, we see the not only the literal differences between the "real world" and the actual real world, but the camera work actually reflects this as well. When Neo first wakes up in the Matrix, the camera movement feels more dynamic and quick than in the beginning of the movie. In doing this, the audience also feels the differences between the Matrix and the "real world" themselves.
